Use only purpose-made car wash detergents as they are formulated not to strip
the layer of protective wax on the paint. Household detergents leave the car
squeaky-clean but they do this by removing wax as well as dirt, thereby leaving
the paint exposed to the elements.
If you’re washing the car immediately after driving it, do the wheels and tyres
last. Splashing cold water on the brake discs inside the wheels can cause them
to warp, leading to expensive repair bills later on.
Waxing the car every two to three months does wonders for protecting the paint
work.
